After all the fireworks and a great opening ceremony, the IPL 2018 opener took place between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. and it could not have been a better beginning where the men in yellow clinched the match in a nail-biting contest by a wicket to spare. The match witnessed a heroic inning from the bat of Dwayne Bravo who was also later adjudged as the ‘Man of the Match’.
Mumbai Indians was put in to bat first as CSK won the toss and chose to bowl first. The MI captain Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis came out to open the batting while young Deepak Chahar was given the responsibility to start the proceedings for Chennai.
The match started well for CSK where both the openers were back in the pavilion inside four overs of play. But young players like Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan took the responsibility with the bat as both scored 43 and 40 respectively. The finishing job was handled well by the Pandya brothers where Krunal being more active scoring 41 off 22 deliveries and the innings total finished at 165-4 in 20 overs for Mumbai Indians. Watson was the bowlers for Chennai, he recorded the bowling figures of 4-0-29-2.
While chasing a tricky target of 166 runs, Watson and Rayudu came out to bat for CSK. Unlike MI openers, CSK started well with the bat until Hardik Pandya came to bowl and took wickets of Watson and Raina in quick succession. From there, the CSK batting collapsed like ninepins and they were reduced to 84-6.
Their batting collapse includes great bowling efforts from young Mayank Markande who took three wickets for just 23 runs which included big wickets of Rayudu and Dhoni. But then came some sensational hitting from Dwayne Bravo where he scored 63 runs off just 30 balls which included 3 fours and 7 sixes and helped CSK to win the match from nowhere.
Kedar Jadhav was given the responsibility to finish the match when 7 runs were required off the last 6 deliveries and Mustafizur came with the ball. Jadhav smashed a six and a four on the fourth and fifth ball respectively to ensure his team a scintillating victory and mark their comeback to the Indian Premier League.
