Jos Butler played a sensational knock of 95* to help his team, Rajasthan Royals to stay in the contest for the fourth place in the Points Table to qualify for the playoffs. For this innings, he also won the ‘Man of the Match’.
Test match started after Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. They made two changes in their playing XI as Shardul Thakur and Sam Billings came back in place of Dhruv Shorey and Lungi Ngidi. RR also made two changes as they played Ankit Sharma instead of Anureet Singh and Prashant Chopra made his debut in place of Mahipal Lomror.
CSK didn’t start well with the bat as they lost the important wicket of in-form Ambati Rayudu for 12 runs in the third over off Jofra Archer. Then a good partnership of 84 runs thrived between Shane Watson and Suresh before they both got out in quick succession for 39 and 52 respectively. After them, MS Dhoni (33) and Billings(23) played quick knocks to help CSK post a decent total of 176-4 on the board.
Archer was the most successful as well as the most expensive bowler with his match figures of 4-0-42-2. Ish Sodhi (4-0-29-1) was the only other bowler to pick up a wicket for Rajasthan.
Royals played a gamble with the bat as they sent Ben Stokes up at the order to open along with Jos Butler but it failed as the English all-rounder continued with a poor season as he got out cheaply for 11. Ajinkya Rahane also followed him as the skipper got for four runs in the next over. Samson joined Butler for hai run a ball 21 before he found himself unlucky as he got run out.
Binny and Gowtham played crucial quick knocks after him but it was Butler’s scintillating knock of 95* off just 60 balls as RR beat the Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets with one ball remaining.
