The race for the playoffs gets interesting as the Kings XI Punjab will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at their adopted home ground Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Both teams will be looking to win this game as the heat for qualifications is increasing.
With a lot controversies going around in the Punjab’s camp, it will be good chance for KKR to win this game. Sources say that the environment in the KXIP’s dugout is not after the Preity Zinta-Virender Sehwag spat. But as both teams lost their respective previous games, it won’t be easy for either of the teams to get the momentum back.
The problem with Punjab is their struggling middle order batsmen which have not been performing since the beginning of the tournament. More than 50 percent of their runs are scored by their top 2, KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. While on the other hand, their bowling looks phenomenal as Mujeeb ur Rahman and Andrew Tye are bowling well in the powerplay and the death overs while Ashwin and Axar Patel are handling the middle overs.
KKR’s issue this season have been their inconsistency as they win one match then lose two, win two and again lose two. That’s why neither of their batting nor bowling have looked stable so far. As the tournament is approaching towards its end, they will be hoping reverse that.
Kolkata’s assistant coach, Simon Katich said that Shubman Gill is fit and ready to join the side which seems to be the only change in the KKR’s playing XI. While Punjab will look to get Yuvraj Singh back in place of Akshdeep Nath as the latter have not been able to fill in the big boots of a middle order batsman for KXIP.
A hot evening is expected with a maximum temperature approaching around 44°. As Indore pitch is slow, so, it won’t be much surprise of it turns out to be an average scoring game.
