Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated table toppers, Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs to stay in the race of qualifying for the playoffs. It was one of the most interesting and exciting game of this year’s IPL. AB de Villiers won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his wonderful display not only with the bat but in the field as well.
RCB began their do-or-die encounter after losing and they were asked to bat first. They didn’t make any changes in their playing XI as expected. Hyderabad, on the other hand, gave a chance to Basil Thampi as Bhuvneshwar Kumar missed out.
RCB didn’t start well with the bat as both their openers, Parthiv Patel (1) and Virat Kohli (12) got out cheaply inside the powerplay. After them, their batsmen at number 3, 4 and 5 played some brilliant innings AB de Villiers (69), Moeen Ali (65) and Colin de Grandhomme (40) helped RCB’s total went past 200. Sarfaraz Khan played a blissful cameo of 22* runs off just 8 balls as RCB posted 218-6 on the board after their 20 overs.
SRH’s star bowler Rashid Khan once again displayed tremendous bowling as he registered the match figures of 4-0-27-3. Siddarth Kaul was expensive but picked up two wickets while on the other hand, Basil Thampi recorded the worst bowling figures (4-0-70-0) in the IPL history.
While chasing, Hyderabad lost both their openers after they threw their starts away as Dhawan got out for 18 and Hales for 37. Hales’ wicket was a major highlight of the match as AB de Villiers pulled out a stunning catch at the boundary ropes. After them, skipper Kane Williamson (81) and Manish Pandey (62*) put their every effort to help their team win but that could not happen.
SRH will be after seeing the performance from the bat of Pandey as it was a major concern for them. But also it was their second defeat on a trot which might worry them as at once stage they were continuously winning matches like anything. While it will be a very important game for RCB as they defeated SRH, which is always a difficult team to beat.
