It gets difficult for Mumbai Indians to qualify for the playoffs as Rajasthan Royals beat them convincingly by 7 wickets. Once again, Jos Butler played a magnificent knock of 94* to help RR win with two overs remaining.

The match started after Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first. They made three changes in their playing XI as D’Arcy Short, Shreyas Gopal and Dhawal Kulkarni came back in place of Ish Sodhi, Prashant Chopra and Ankit Sharma. While on the other hand, MI played with the same playing XI as the previous match.

MI openers, Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav started well with the bat as they put an opening partnership of 87 runs on the board before Yadav got out on 38 in the 11th over. On the very next ball, MI skipper Rohit Sharma also got out for a golden duck. After Lewis (60) got out, Hardik Pandya played a crucial innings of 36(21) to help Mumbai post 168/6 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.

Jofra Archer was the best bowler for RR in this match with his bowling figures of 4-0-16-2. Ben Stokes (4-0-26-2) also bowled equally well as it was his best match with the ball for Rajasthan in this year’s IPL. Except these two, rest all other bowlers were not that effective and conceded around 10 runs per over.

Rajasthan Royals began their chase with yet another failure from the bat of D’Arcy Short as he got out four runs. After him, Butler and Rahane held the innings well before the latter got out for 36. Sanju Samson came then and played an important knock of 26(14) alongside Butler to help RR win the match at the end of the 18th over.

Hardik was the leading wicket taker for MI in this match but he went on to concede whopping 52 runs in his four overs. McClelenagan and Krunal Pandya were the only two economical bowlers but as the target was not too big, Mumbai bowlers failed to defend it.

With this loss, Mumbai Indians lost their fortunes from their own hands as now they will have to depend on other teams’ results to fancy their chances of playing in the playoffs. While RR are well on the track as they just have to win their remaining two matches to qualify for the playoffs.
