After posting a mammoth total of 245 runs on the board, Kolkata Knight Riders easily defeated the Kings XI Punjab by 31 runs to reach the fourth place in the Points Table.
The match started after KXIP win the toss and asked KKR to bat first. Punjab made three changes in their playing XI as Manoj Tiwary, Akshdeep Nath and Marcus Stionis didn’t play today and Barinder Sran, Mayank Agarwal and Aaron Finch replaced them. KKR, on the other hand made just a single change as Javon Searles made his debut in place of Tom Curran.
Kolkata started well with the bat as both their openers, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine didn’t get out too early like most of the matches this season. But Lynn was not able to convert his start as he got out for 27 in the last over of the powerplay. Every batsmen who came out to bat for KKR scored runs in which the major contribution was by Sunil Narine who scored a brilliant 75 runs off just 36 deliveries. He also later won the ‘Man of the Match’ for this inning.
Narine got good support from the skipper Dinesh Karthik(50) and Andre Russell (31) as the two played blazing knocks. Even after KKR posted 245 on the board, Andrew Tye managed to take four wickets for Punjab after which he moved way ahead in the list of Purple Cap.
KXIP also began their batting in the similar manner as both their openers started well. Chris Gayle got out for 21 in the last over of the powerplay, just like KKR did. But from there on, nothing went in their favor as they lost Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair in quick succession.
After them, though Rahul kept scoring runs at the other end before he got out after a blissful 66. Finch and Axar Patel gave some hope to the Kings after seeing at the way they were batting. Ashwin played till the 20th over before he got out for 45(22) but the target was too big to chase and they fall short of it by 31 runs.
