Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Delhi Daredevils by a massive margin of 71 runs at the Eden Gardens in the 13th match of IPL 2018. Nitish Rana won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his blissful knock of 59 runs off just 35 deliveries
The match started after Delhi won the toss and opt to bowl first. Both teams made one change to their playing XI as DD played Chris Morris in place of Dan Christian while KKR played Tom Curran instead of Mitchell Johnson.
The KKR once again opened with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine where Narine got out cheaply for a solitary run. After him, KKR never looked back and all their batsmen looked in great touch and contributed with their bat to take their total to 200-9 at the end of their 20 overs. Major contributions came from Lynn (31), Uthappa (35), Russell (41) and Rana with 59 runs. For Delhi, apart from Boult (4-1-29-1) and Tewatia (3-0-18-1), all other bowlers were smashed all around the park.
Delhi were struggling in the early phase of their batting as their top three batsmen, Gambhir (8), Roy (1) and Iyer (4) were out inside three overs. After that, only Pant (43) and Maxwell (47) were the only two batsmen who scored runs in double digits. After the later got out, Delhi’s loss was almost assured and the team stumbled to 129/10 at just 14.2 overs.
Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for KKR with his bowling figures of 3-0-18-3. Apart from him, Kuldeep Yadav despite conceding runs got the bowling figures of 3.2-0-32-3 which included the major wickets of both Pant and Maxwell which turned the match in KKR’s favor.
After this win, KKR moved up to the second spot in the Points Table while Delhi slipped to the second last position as they have won only one game so far in this year’s IPL.
