Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad to finally put a stoppage to SRH as they were winning matches on trot like anything. They won the match by 8 wickets and Ambati Rayudu won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his unbeaten century.
The match started after CSK won the toss and opted to field first. They made just one change as Deepak Chahar came back after two weeks in place of Karn Sharma. SRH also made just one change as Yusuf Pathan who was sore, so, got replaced by Deepak Hooda.
Chahar made a wonderful comeback as bowled beautifully in the powerplay and ended with match figures of 4-0-16-1 which included the key wicket of Alex Hales. After him, Dhawan and Williamson once again took SRH to rescue with their respective knocks of 79 and 51. A small cameo of 21*(11) from Deepak Hooda helped SRH to post 179/4 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Except Chahar, Shardul Thakur also bowled well as he finished the match with bowling figures of 4-0-32-2. Dwayne Bravo (4-0-39-1) was the only other successful bowler for CSK. Seven options were used by Dhoni to bowl for CSK which was quite unusual from him.
CSK openers began the chase extremely well as they went on to score a 100-run partnership for their team. When they lost their first wicket of Shane Watson(57) for 134 runs on the board, it was Chennai’s match from everywhere. Though Raina got out cheaply for 2, but then MS Dhoni once again promoted himself at number 4 to finish the match at the end of the 19th over. Ambati Rayudu once again continued his purple patch as he played right through the innings to score a century.
SRH bowlers looked clueless against CSK batsmen as Sandeep Sharma was the only wicket taker. Rashid Khan (4-0-25-0) was the only economical bowler for them as rest all other bowlers conceded much runs.
With this win, CSK, who were not looking consistently since the last few matches in this IPL, have qualified for the playoffs. They became the second team to do so after Sunrisers Hyderabad.
