Delhi Daredevils defeated the Chennai Super Kings to register a consolation win towards the end of the tournament. Even though it didn’t matter much but it would be a special win for DD as it came against a team like CSK. Harshal Patel won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
The match started after Chennai won the toss and opted to field. They made just one change in their playing XI as Lungi Ngidi played instead of David Willey. Delhi made interesting two changes as Avesh Khan and Glenn Maxwell came back in place of Junior Dala and Jason Roy. DD played this match with only three foreign players.
DD started slow with the bat as they scored just 39 runs after the powerplay and lost the wicket of Prithvi Shaw. After a small partnership between Pant and Iyer, Delhi lost a few quick wickets. Vijay Shankar (36*) and Harshal Patel (36*) played good, swift knocks to help DD post a decent total 162-5 on the board.
Except the last over from Dwayne Bravo in which he conceded four sixes, CSK bowlers bowled well in the remaining overs. Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he ended with a match figures of 3-0-14-2.
Watson got out early struggling as he scored only 14 runs in the 23 deliveries he played. Rayudu was the lone warrior for CSK as he scored a fifty off just 29 balls. Except him, all, Dhoni, Raina and Billings struggled to score runs. Ravindra Jadeja played a small cameo of 27 from 18 but the match was never in their hands at that time.
Delhi’s bowlers bowled impressively well with their four bowlers, each bowling their quota of four overs, bowled with an economy of less than 6. Amit Mishra and Trent Boult took two wickets each while Lamichhane and Harshal Patel took one.
