The news of Australian player tampering the ball during the third Test at Newlands in Cape Town has created a furor in the world of Cricket. It has not only affected the reputation of the current team players but the prestige of the good players from the past has been tarnished a bit. The awful act is criticized by people all over the world.
“The Aussies have said themselves that the brand of cricket they play is to win at all costs,” said Ottis Gibson, South African coach, of the controversy of tampering the ball when the cameras caught Cameron Bancroft rubbing the ball with a sticky piece of tape. The coach said that it must have been the Australia team’s desperation to win the match that led to this shameful act. He added, “When you look at the Ashes (against England), they were never really behind in many of the games. They won quite comfortably. Here they were behind a couple of times and perhaps that desperation came into it for them. It’s a shame that something like this had to happen for them to have a look at themselves.”
The Australia Test captain Steve Smith and the player will return home for their role after their deliberate act that let down the team’s pride.
