The National Aeronautics and Space Administration informs about the stumbling of an asteroid. The impact was detected only after its explosion. The stargazers of Russian cities including Lipetsk witnessed a small space rock resembling a blazing fireball in the sky. Lipetsk is present on the South-western part of Moscow.

The data retrieved from NASA indicates the force of meteor explosion to be three kilotons. This explosion occurred on June 21, 2018. This meteor explosion is entitled as the most powerful explosion of 2018. The asteroid was about four meters wide. However, it was not that large enough to damage our planet. One can say, this meteor explosion is a glimpse of what risks do the space asteroids pose to our Planet Blue.

We do have a Planetary Defence Network. It is this Planetary Defence Network, which is held responsible for keeping an eye on the asteroids. However, in case of the Russian-asteroid explosion, the Planetary Defence Network failed to detect the Russia-bound space rock.

The sensors of the US government first detected the asteroid striking Earth. These US government sensors are specifically designed to sense and alarm regarding the nuclear explosions.

The International Meteor Organisation writes, “The event was captured on video and caused a lot of public attention. The event has been reported by witnesses from the cities of Kursk, Lipetsk, Voronzeh and Orel. Many of them reported a loud sonic boom.”

In was in the last week itself, that NASA came ahead with its new strategy for efficiently dealing with the asteroid attack. It further warned about the vulnerability which caused hindrances in its path for object detection. It is believed that the twenty-meter asteroid reached Earth in the year 2013, which witnessed a massive explosion over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. The explosion resulted in about four hundred and forty kiloton blast. The intensity of this asteroid blast was about thirty times more potent than the ‘Little Boy’ bomb explosion in Hiroshima.
