Royal Challengers Bangalore crushed the Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets which increases the trouble for Punjab of qualifying for the playoffs. After this win they reach to 10 points while their run rate took a giant leap.
The match started after RCB won the toss and opted to field first as it is difficult to defend a target at the Holkar Stadium. They played with an unchanged playing XI while Punjab made two changes as Rahman who got injured in the last match had to sit out and was replaced by Marcus Stoinis. Also, Ankit Rajpoot played instead of Barinder Sran.
After an expected good start with the bat from the KXIP openers, both the openers got out in the same over off Umesh Yadav. After Rahul (21) and Gayle (18) got out, KXIP batting fall like ninepins as Aaron Finch (26) was the only other batsman to score runs in double digits.
Umesh Yadav (4-0-23-3) was the major destructor of the Kings’ innings after which also won the ‘Man of the Match’ where they bundled out for merely 88 runs on the board. It was the second lowest innings total by a team in this year’s IPL.
RCB began the chase with Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli (who promoted himself). Kohli’s decision of sending himself up the order worked like wonders as RCB finished the match at 8.1 overs with all 10 wickets remaining in hand. Both Patel and Kohli returned back not out for 40 and 48 respectively, after winning the match.
Nothing went well for Punjab as they got all out cheaply in the first innings and later they kept on missing run out chances, dropped catches, leaked too many runs. With this win, RCB still stay in the contention for qualifying for the playoffs. Punjab also still have chance of qualifying but as the way they are playing, it seems that they have to wait this year as well.
