Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first as they made just one change in their playing XI by replacing Pollard with Evin Lewis. Kings XI Punjab on the other hand, made three changes as Axar Patel, Yuvraj Singh and Marcus Stoinis came in for Barinder Sran, Manoj Tiwary and Aaron Finch.
KL Rahul and Chris Gayle opened the batting well for KXIP on a nice batting track of Holkar Stadium. But except Gayle (who scored a fifty), no other batsman converted his start which didn’t allow Punjab to post a very big total on the board which was expected from them.
The economy rate for Mumbai Indians was around 9 but Jasprit Bumrah bowling brilliantly for his figures of 4-0-19-1 as became the pick of the bowlers. McClenaghan also supported him well with his match figures of 4-0-31-1.
After Evin Lewis got out for 10, Kishan and Yadav held the innings well. The latter went on to score a fifty while the former got out for a slow 25 runs. Hardik Pandya came in at number 4 and played a quick knock of 23(13) before getting out. After that, when the required run rate went past 12, Krunal Pandya and Rohit Sharma took the responsibility.
A brilliant finishing knock of 31* runs off just 12 balls from Krunal who was well supported by the skipper(24* off 15) helped MI to finish the game at the end of the 19th over. With this win, Mumbai’s hopes are still alive to qualify for the playoffs.
