After their first two matches, CSK were again indulged in a close finish but this time the result was against their favor as the men in yellow fall just 4 runs short in the match against Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.

The match started after Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opt to field first. Punjab made two changes to their squad as they played Chris Gayle and Barinder Sran while CSK made only a forced change by playing Murali Vijay in place of Suresh Raina.

The Punjab openers started exceptionally well as they they were 75 for no loss at the end of the powerplay. Harbhajan Singh soon provided CSK an important breakthrough in the form of KL Rahul (37). Chris Gayle played a blissful knock of 63 runs off just 33 balls before getting out, he later won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for this. Swift knocks from Agarwal (30), Yuvraj (20) and Nair(29) helped Punjab to reach a decision decent total of 197-7.

Vijay and Watson didn’t provide CSK a start for which they were looking for as both them got out cheaply for 12 and 11 respectively. Sam Billings followed them as he also got out for 9. After them, Rayudu and Dhoni kept CSK in the game with an occasional boundary every over or two. The equation was down to 75 off last 4 overs.

Dhoni helped them to reduce the equation to 17 in last over. Mohit Sharma came to bowl and assured that he wins the match for his team. Though Dhoni hit a six on the last ball but unlike other times, it came in a losing cause. He ended at his highest T20 score of 79 from just 44 balls which included 6 fours and 5 sixes.

For Kings XI Punjab, Mujeeb ur Rahman was the most economical bowler as he conceded only 18 runs in his three overs while Andrew Tye was the most successful bowler as he took 2 wickets. With this win, Punjab moved to the second spot while CSK slipped to the third position in the Points Table.
