DD’s new skipper Shreyas Iyer did wonders on his first match after getting the post as Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs. For his magnificent knock of 93 runs off just 40 balls also helped him to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first. They made just a single change to their squad as they played Mitchell Johnson in place of Tom Curran. Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, made two changes which included a big decision of not playing Gautam Gambhir. Colin Munro and Vijay Shankar came back to the side as Dan Christian became the other player to be dropped.
Munro and Shaw started extremely well for DD with the bat as they were scoring around 10 runs every over but the former got out of for a quick 33 at the end of the 7th over. But the momentum didn’t break after that as Shaw (62) and Iyer (93) capitalized the innings.
Glenn Maxwell found his touch back as he scored 27 runs off just 18 balls before getting run out. Delhi posted a massive 219-4 on the board. Piyush Chawla (4-0-33-1) was the pick of the bowlers for KKR and apart from him, no other bowler supported him well.
Delhi started well with the ball as well. Four of the KKR’s batsmen were out cheaply inside the six overs of powerplay. Shubman Gill (37) and Andre Russell (44) played till almost the end but as the target was way too high and they fall 55 runs short of it.
Amit Mishra was the best bowler for Delhi with his bowling figure of (4-1-23-1) who got brilliant support from Avesh Khan and Liam Plunkett. DD won the match very convincingly which gave them a hope in this year’s IPL as they record their second win after a lot of losses.
