Rishabh Pant’s magnificent knock of 128* goes in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets to qualify for the playoffs with flying colors.
Delhi win the toss and opted to bat first at their home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla. They made three changes in their playing XI as Jason Roy, Harshal Patel and Shahbaz Nadeem came back in place of Daniel Christian, Naman Ojha and Harshal Patel. SRH, on the other hand just made a forced change as Wriddhiman Saha, who got injured had to miss out and was replaced by Shreevats Goswami.
Delhi started awfully with the as they lost their their top 3 in no time and were reduced to 43/3. After them, Pant and Patel engaged in a partnership of 55 runs where the latter got out for 24(17). Pant took the charge and played a tremendous knock of 128* off just 63 deliveries to help DD post 187-5 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for SRH with his match figures of 4-0-27-2 where he took the important wickets of both the openers in successive balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the only other wicket taker for SRH but he also ended up as the most expensive bowler(1/51).
Daredevils started well with the ball as they got the wicket of dangerous Alex Hales for 14 in just the second over off Harshal Patel who ended as the only wicket taker for DD. After him, Dhawan and Hales played match winning knocks of 92* and 83* respectively to help SRH win the match easily by 9 wickets.
It will be a great victory for Hyderabad as it was not only their sixth consecutive win in this year’s IPL but they win this match on the basis of their batsmen’s performance which was worrying since quite some time. Two things that are confirmed after this match are, SRH will finish in the top 3 at the Points Table and DD will have to wait for yet another season to qualify for the playoffs. They can now just look to spoil someone’s party this year as they are knocked out for the contention of playoffs.
