Chennai Super Kings defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets to increase the troubles for RCB in this year’s IPL. Ravindra Jadeja won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his bowling figures of 4-0-18-3.
CSK won the toss and opted to bat first. Both teams made three to their playing XI as Chennai played Dhruv Shorey, Shardul Thakur and David Willey instead of Karn Sharma, KM Asif and Faf du Plessis. RCB brought back AB de Villiers, M Ashwin and Parthiv Patel in place of Quinton de Kock, Washington Sundar and Manan Vohra.
RCB didn’t start well as they kept on losing wickets at one end as the other end was held well by Parthiv Patel (53) who was playing his first game this season. They were reduced to 89-8 inside 16 overs. Tim Southee’s knock of 36* off 26 balls helped RCB to post a respectable total of 127-9 on the board.
Jadeja was the best bowler as he took three wickets for 18 runs in the four overs that he bowled. He got good support from Ngidi, harbhajan and Willey who also got a tick mark in the wickets column.
While batting for CSK, Watson got out early for 11. Rayudu and Raina batted well after him for their knocks of 32 and 25 respectively before getting out in quick succession. Dhruv Shorey also followed them soon. Match started to shift in RCB’s favor before Dhoni hit three sixes in the 18 over off Yuzvendra Chahal to finish the match at the end of 18th over.
RCB bowlers did well with the ball but they he’d very less runs with them to defend. With this win, CSK move to the top of the Points Table and now they are just two wins away from putting a foot in the playoffs. While for RCB, the chances have now started to diminish a lot more.
