After an exciting finish in CSK’s first game against MI, we witnessed another breathtaking game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The match witnessed some great hittings from the bat of Russell and Billings and Chennai managed to outshine KKR by 5 wickets in the last over of the match.
The match started after CSK won the toss and opt to bowl first. Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn opened the batting while the ball was given to young Rahul Chahar. Runs started to flow immediately as 18 runs came in the first over. But soon, KKR were down to 89/5 and they were left with Karthik and Russell at the crease.
Then the ‘Russell-show’ started and there was no one to stop him as he smashed 88* off just 36 deliveries which included 11 huge sixes. They set a target of 203 in front of Chennai Super Kings. Only Harbhajan Singh (2-0-11-1) and Imran Tahir (4-0-26-1) were able to stop the flow of runs and rest all other bowlers conceded much runs.
While chasing a huge target of 203, CSK started well as they cruised to 75 inside the powerplay before losing Watson’s wicket. After that, flow of runs slowed down wickets in the form of Rayudu and Raina fall at regular intervals.
Towards the later end, Dhoni also played a few shots and Sam Billings played a magnificent knock of 56 off 23 before he was out in the penultimate over. The finishing job was once again given to Dwayne Bravo.
17 runs were needed off the last over and Vinay Kumar came to bowl. A six each from Bravo and Jadeja provided CSK a win with one ball to spare. This game became the joint highest where maximum (31) sixes were scored.
