In the past, most people would have committed themselves to one career path. However, given the rising casualization of the workforce and the ongoing economic changes from the COVID-19 pandemic, it would be fair to say that more workers will be chopping and changing their careers. Annastasia Onyinyechukwuka Oraegbunem continues to work across many industries, working in the music industry through her record label company, Anydos, and, more recently, with her foray into the world of children’s book writing.

Annastasia answered a few questions we had about her career, why she made decisions that changed her career and her advice for other people looking to follow a similar path.

Annastasia, how has the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic affected your life and career?

This period is a challenging time for every business. As a music school, it is not easy to convince customers to have their lessons online because most of our aged students are not familiar with the use of technology. The older students prefer in-class lessons where they can hear, feel, and see the teachers’ expressions and techniques. The younger ones have been busy with their school work online, too, which has clashed with their music lessons with Anydos.

I am grateful to God that people can buy musical instruments from Anydos during this pandemic to learn at their leisure while at home.

Have you been forced to make changes to the way your music school operates to maintain social distancing requirements?

Yes. To maintain a safe working environment, I have had to abide by the rules and instructions from the health sector regarding the COVID-19 pandemic crises.  Though it is uncomfortable and annoying for students to learn from a distance, every business has had to adjust to some extent.

My team and I try as much as we can to maintain social distancing and take other necessary precautions to keep our working environment safe. Then, I surrender all my effort in God’s hands because only He can help out in this pandemic period.

What are some of the most important traits needed to be a successful owner of a record label?

Personally, the most important traits to be a successful owner of a record label are similar to the quality of a great leader. For example, transparency is essential because the artists and the record label need to maintain a good relationship that does not involve secrecy. The record label should be open and include the artist in any decision; that way, the artist will feel appreciated, abused, or neglected during the creative process.

Another important trait is that the leader needs to know that the artists are not just their products rather their platform to be successful. I mean, the leaders need to be good listeners, compassionate, and able to provide excellent advice to their artists.

Your music school offers filming services for music videos. How does this work and what processes do you use to maintain quality?

Yes, Anydos offers filming services to musicians because it wants the best video quality to broadcast on Anydos TV channel. Anydos works to encourage musicians in as many ways as possible. We train musicians while preparing them in their careers. Personally, as a singer, I learned how difficult it is for women to succeed in the entertainment industry, especially in the music sector. Through the challenges I discovered for over 20 years, I decided to offer all the necessary support a musician will need to succeed with Anydos filming service. Anydos provides an opportunity for any prospective and enthusiastic music students that walk into our music school.

We do the first assessment of any video script and the camera quality before and after completing the music video production, thereby maintaining our reputation. Another reason for the evaluation is to have consistent quality music content on Anydos TV channel.

What encouraged you to begin writing, and why specifically children’s books?

Writing is my hobby, and my environment inspires me to write. I am also a mother and an educator; I generate ideas from children and different people. I see reasons to put down the ideas onto paper because when my audience reads my work, they can share a few of my thoughts. I can communicate well through my writings to spread the knowledge and experience I have acquired in life.

You have had much success across different industries. What do you think had made you so successful, and what would be your advice to others trying to do the same?

I give all the credit to God. Through Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and life, I have done great things that I could never have done on my own (John 14: 6).

I think consistent hard work, patience, and perseverance are the significant factors that have helped me throughout my success story. I mainly try as much as I can to keep faith even when I do not see the need to move on with my plans.

My advice to anyone is to be patient, work hard, and maintain the quality of your work. Also, it is necessary to ask God for help when you feel confused or frustrated anytime because there are ups and downs in life, and often it is when you feel no hope in the world that the best things in your life are about to happen. However, most people lose out because of impatience and end up miserable, wasting all their effort. I believe that no good things come quickly only by God’s grace (1 Corinthians 2).
