Kings XI Punjab defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets in the 19th over to climb up to the third position in the Points Table and the Royals still stay at the last spot. Mujeeb ur Rahman won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his wonderful bowling spell of 3/27 in his quota of for overs.
Punjab won the toss and opted to field first where they made just one change in their playing XI as they replaced Yuvraj Singh with Manoj Tiwary. RR also made just a single change as Anureet Singh came in for Dhawal Kulkarni.
Rajasthan didn’t start well with the bat as they lost D’Arcy Short in the very first over off Ashwin for two runs. Soon skipper Ajinkya Rahane follow him as he too got out for 5 runs. After him Samson played a sensible knock of 28 runs but soon too many wickets fall in the middle overs which also included the wicket of Jos Butler(51).
Shreyas Gopal’s cameo of 24 runs off 16 deliveries helped RR post a respectable total of 152/9 on the board at the end of their 20 overs. Mujeeb ur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with his match figures of 4-0-27-3. Except Marcus Stoinis, who bowled just one over, every bowler took at least one wicket for Punjab.
Punjab also had somewhat similar start with bat to that of Rajasthan Royals. They also lost Chris Gayle(8) and Mayank Agarwal (2) inside the powerplay. Karun Nair then joined the opener Rahul before getting out after playing a sensible knock of 31 runs. But after him Rahul and Stoinis(23*) played till the very end to ensure their team a victory.
Rajasthan’s bowlers bowled really well in the middle overs but Rahul played throughout the innings to help Punjab win the match. This will be special win for KXIP as they won even after Chris Gayle’s failure. Worries increased for RR with this loss, as now they have to win every match to fancy their chances for qualifying for the playoffs.
