In the first rain-affected match of this year’s IPL, Rajasthan Royals easily defeated the Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs (D/L Method). Sanju Samson was given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his quick inning of 37 from 22 deliveries.

The match began after Delhi won the toss and asked Rajasthan to bat first. RR opened with Ajinkya Rahane and D’Arcy Short while the latter was again run out for just six runs. Soon, Stokes also got out for 16. The responsibility of handling the innings was given to Rahane and Samson which they performed exceptionally well. After them, Jos Butler came for a cameo of 29 runs off 18 balls along with Rahul Tripathi (15 off 11).

Delhi bowlers had also bowled reasonably well till that time. Shahbaz Nadeem took 2/34 in his four overs while Rahul Tewatia and Shami recorded the figures of 4-0-29-0 and 3.5-0-29-1 respectively. At 17.5 overs, when Tripathi and Gowtham were batting, rain started to fall and stopped just a few minutes before the cutoff time. After the match restarted, DD were given a difficult target of 71 from six overs.

With players present like Munro, Maxwell, Morris and Pant, DD always had their chances in the game. Munro came to open the batting for DD with Glenn Maxwell and was run out on the very first ball without even facing a ball. And Delhi never looked in the winning position after that. Both Maxwell and Pant looked to hit every ball out of the ground but due to great slow bowling and cutters from RR pacers, they were not able to connect the ball well.

Though Morris played an inning of 17 off 7 balls but it was way too late to come back to the match. RR bowling was led well by been Laughlin (2/20) which included the major wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Dhawal Kulkarni also bowled a magnificent over in which he conceded just four runs and the match ended in favour of RR.

As the match ended, RR opened their account in the Points Table but Delhi still remains at zero. With a long tournament ahead, they will look to improve those numbers.
