Indian men’s table tennis team won the gold medal by defeating Nigeria on the fifth day of the 21st Commonwealth Games on Monday. In the final played in Oxenford Studios, India defeated Nigeria by 3-0.

The first match of the finals was of singles where veteran player Sharath Kamal Achanta make a comeback after losing the first game by 4-11 to beat Bode Abiodun by 11-5, 11-4 and 11-9 in the next three games to give India lead by 1-0.

In the second singles, India’s Saathiya Gnanasekaran had to face defeat in the first game by 10-12 but he also made a fantastic comeback in the match and won the next three games by 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 and doubled India’s lead.

After this, in the third match, Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran defeated Nigerian Olajide Omotayo and Bode Abiodun in just 15 minutes to win the doubles by 11-8, 11-5, 11-3. This is the ninth gold medal for India in 21st Commonwealth Games. Overall, India has won 18 medals in the 21st Commonwealth Games.
