Kolkata defeated the Rajasthan by 7 seven wickets to break RR’s winning streak of 9 consecutive wins at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Nitish Rana won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
The match started after Kolkata won the toss and opted to bowl first. As expected, both teams played with an unchanged playing XI. Rajasthan Royals opened their batting with Ajinkya Rahane and D’Arcy Short where started positively and were 48-0 at the end of the powerplay.
RR were looking until their captain ran himself out for 36. After him, except Short (44), no other batsman was able to capitalize the innings. Wickets kept on falling at regular intervals in the form of Samson (7), Tripathi (15), Stokes (14) and Gowtham (12). Innings of 24(18) from the bat of Jos Butler helped RR to finish at a decent total of 160/8 at the end of their 20 overs. For KKR, all bowlers bowled well except Sunil Narine whose bowling figures looked like 4-0-48-0 which was his career-worst figures.
RR started well with the ball as they dismissed Chris Lynn for a duck. But after him, KKR never looked back as Narine (35) and Uthappa (48) helped them to recover the loss. Captain Dinesh Karthik (42*) and Nitish Rana (35*) stayed not out till the very end ensuring KKR an easy win inside 19 overs. Except for K Gowtham (4-0-23-0), no other RR bowler was able to trouble the Knight Riders’ batsmen.
